Techniques
Diversified
Diversified is the technique we generally associate with “chiropractic”. This technique is hands on manual adjustment that usually results in a popping sound that is correcting the misaligned or subluxated spinal segments. This is the most widely used form of adjustment within the chiropractic profession. The resulting sound is the cavitations of the joint; in other words a release of gas. The goal is to restore normal motion to the spinal segment.
Thompson Drop Technique
The Thompson Technique was developed by Dr. J Clay Thompson. This technique has evolved into a system of analysis and a way to adjust the full spine. This technique provides a lot of patient comfort along with precision adjusting. The patient will first notice the table in an upright position that will lower slowly after they step onto the platform. This helps to preserve leg length inequality. The second thing they will notice is the individual “drop” pieces. These drop-pieces give way gently to help mobilize the spinal segments.
Cox Flexion/Distraction Technique
The Cox technique is specifically designed for back and leg pain caused by disc herniation or stenosis. It can also benefit arthritis or patients suffering from back sprain. Flexion/Distraction is a safe alternative to back surgery and also a good alternative for failed back surgery patients. The goal of Flexion/Distraction is to reduce the pressure between the discs by stretching the spine and applying upward pressure with the doctor’s hand.
Activator Technique![]()
The Activator technique uses a small spring-loaded instrument designed to deliver a controlled, light fast thrust that causes no strain to the patient. The movement of the joint is obtained due to the speed of the instrument’s thrust and not by high force, therefore making this adjustment suitable for patients from 1 to 101 years old. The technique also utilizes many testing procedures developed by Activator Methods. These tests check the spinal balance and help to locate the misaligned spinal region.
